Pigs knuckle, anyone?
A long German tradition returns this weekend in the Tri-State. Of course, it’s Volkfest!
This weekend is the 59th Annual Volksfest. The event is known for its featured German food, music, costumes, and beer! Volksfest started Thursday and runs through this Saturday, August 7. The fun starts at 11 am daily and wraps up at 12 pm each night. All ages are welcome until 2 pm daily.
Some would argue that the best part about Volksfest is the food! Their kraut balls, german bratwurst, and German potatoes salad are all secret recipes that you can only get from Volksfest. We spoke with two Volksfest organizers about the food. Robert Wright said if you try anything, go for the brat burger. Harold Greise said the pig knuckle is the way to go. Check out the video above to see what they’re talking about.
You can also get pork chops, mashed potatoes, and German pretzels why you’re there, too.
Of course, there is beer!
On Saturday, there will be a kids carnival from 9:30 am to 2 pm for kids 12 and under. There will be free drinks, hot dogs, and chips. Kiddos can also get their faces painted and compete in the German costume contest on Saturday at 11 am.
Then after 2 pm each day only those twenty-one and over can enter. There is a cover charge of $5 after 4 pm each day.
This year guests can expect live music from great German bands. Some that have been coming to Volksfest for 30 years!
