Grab an inner tube, kayak, or anything that floats!

The 2019 Clog the Patoka event is Saturday, July 13.

Clog the Patoka is an annual event where hundreds of people flock to Winslow, IN in July to camp and float, kayak 6.5 miles down the Patoka River.

The event doesn’t truly ‘clog’ the Patoka, but it might come close. The first ever Clog the Patoka had 360 ‘cloggers’. Then in 2018 the 2nd annual Clog the Potoka more than doubled the number of cloggers with a total of 811! Organizer Chris Clement said he hopes to see 1000 cloggers happily floating or kayaking down the Patoka River for the 2019 event.

What we love about this event is that it’s completely FREE. The camping is free. The float is free. All you need is your floatation device and a life jacket.

How it works

You and your friends will unload your floats, kayaks, and gear at the starting point. Then the driver alone will drive to the parking lot, park, and then find the shuttle to take them back to the starting point. If you’re planning to float as a party of one, just head to the parking lot and they’ll take you and your gear to the start.

The float takes about 5 hours for an inner tube or raft and 3-4 hours on a kayak.

Keep in mind you are floating at your own risk. Clog the Patoka is not responsible for accidents.

Friday night camping is a great way to meet the great people making the same journey with you. And it’s completely free. You can pitch a tent or bring your RV. Clement said one of the best parts of camping the night before is the community campfire where campers gather, meet, and laugh before the big day.

There are port-a-potties on site.

What to bring

  • Your choice of floatation device
  • Camping gear (if you plan to camp)
  • Bug Spray
  • Sun Screen
  • Snacks
  • Drinks
  • Cooler
  • Floatation device for your cooler
  • Water shoes
  • Lifejacket**

**Per the Indiana DNR all cloggers are required to have a life jacket, but that doesn’t mean you have to wear it. Organizers of the event suggest bringing a rope to tie off your lifejacket to your raft, inner tube, or kayak to keep it within arms reach.
