OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - In Owensboro, Emmy award-winning comedian Vicki Lawrence is set to perform at RiverPark Center with new material featuring a modern twist.

According to a release, Lawrence will take the stage first before her popular character Mama joins the show.

It’s coming up on January 20.

Officials say the performance will combine stand-up comedy, music and observations about real life.

“My show is not a retrospective,” Lawrence said. “The show is a mixture of stand-up comedy, music and my observations about real life.”

Lawrence is known for her acting and comedic talents. She also earned a gold record for the 1973 hit “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia.”

She says audiences can expect new material from her Mama character.

“I think people will get a kick out of the things Mama has an opinion about. We’re creating new material with a more modern and cutting edge,” she said. “Where Mama is concerned, expect the unexpected. There’s really nothing she can’t do.”

Lawrence said she hopes to show audiences a different side of her personality while delivering the Mama character fans expect.

Tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster.com and at the RiverPark Center Box Office.
