New BBQ restaurant opening on Franklin St.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - A new barbecue restaurant in Evansville opened its doors Friday in case you’re still tired of cooking after Thanksgiving.

Kenny’s Smoke Shack BBQ is now open on the corner of Franklin and Second Avenue, serving family meals, sandwiches, plates, and more.

The owner, Kenny Walker, is a tri-state native who’s been making barbecue his whole life, including professionally for the past five years.

Walker says he wants his restaurant to stand out not only for the food, but also the atmosphere.

“You’re really getting that family feel when you come here,” says Walker. “I really want you to get lost in everything and feel like you’re at your family reunion, if you like going to your family reunion. If you don’t, whatever cousin’s house you like going over to, that’s where you’re at.”

Kenny says he’s been running a catering business prior to opening the restaurant, and he’s eager to work out of the larger space.

Walker also says he’s proud of everything they offer, but he especially likes the mutton, and says people really like their ribs and chicken.

According to a Facebook post, the restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

They are drive-thru only from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the morning.
