Night of Light tree-lighting ceremony held in downtown Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The Indiana Donor Network held their 14th annual Night of Light tree-lighting ceremony on Wednesday evening.

Many gathered outside the Civic Center in downtown Evansville to support those whose lives have been affected by organ, tissue and eye donation.

Families of donors hung ornaments on a big tree to honor their loved ones who made huge sacrifices to save lives.

14 News spoke with the Indiana Donor Network Vice President Kira Newkirk, who highlighted the importance of this annual event for those families.

“Any time that our families can come together and be around people who have experienced the same loss and tragedy provides a sense of hope and healing and a legacy for their loved one through donation and transplantation,” Newkirk said.

Organizers also unveiled a memorial to the late Dr. Emil Weber, a former Indiana Donor Network chair who championed organ donation locally.
