2021: How to ring in the New Year at home

Hello, fresh start. It’s nice to meet you.

The new year will hopefully bring the light to end this very long, dark tunnel that has been 2020.

NYE is one of the biggest nights for parties, gatherings, and celebrations. And this year it can be just as fun, just as long as it’s safe. There are definitely ways to make your celebration memorable.

Here are some easy ways to do that.

Get local take out and snacks

Get a nice dinner or snacks from a local eatery! We all know local businesses need our help.

There’s something about having trays of assorted snacks that truly makes a party a party. Just because you aren’t hosting a large gathering doesn’t mean you don’t need snacks. Charcuterie boards are never the wrong choice.

We love these boards from Siciliano Subs.

New Year's Day Hike

Wouldn’t it be great to start the new year watching the first 2021 sunrise on a beautiful trail?

Find some great hiking places in the Tri-State…

Make a memory jar

Grab an empty mason jar or a big mug that you have laying around the house. Then as you live your best life in 2021, write down everything good that happened and put it in the jar.

This makes for a really special NYE for 2022 when you can read all the amazing things that happened over the last 365 days.

Cocktails and Mocktails

Champagne, yes, of course, but if there was ever a night to make fancy cocktails, it’s this night.

Try this classic French 75 recipe.

  • ice
  • 1 1/2 ounce gin*
  • 1/2 ounce lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • Sparkling White wine*

Drink directions:

  1. Put ice in a drink shaker and add in gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup
  2. Shake it up!
  3. Pour into a glass and top off with sparkling white
  4. Garnish with a lemon twist or wedge
  5. Enjoy!

*You can substitute the sparkling white wine with sparkling grape juice and leave out the gin for a cocktail instead.

Of course, watch the ball drop

The ball will still drop this year!

The Times Square Ball Drop will go virtual this year (how 2020 is that?). There will still be performances and speakers.

Click here to see the virtual lineup.

Make it a game night

Wouldn’t it be so good to ring in the new a winner? Time to break out those board games, if you haven’t already during the pandemic.

Bonus points if it’s a retro Pokemon Monopoly board set like this one.

TikTok Challenges

TikTok has definitely emerged as a pandemic favorite. And with it comes some hilarious family games that we can all try at home with very little stuff. Try this Balloon Stack Challenge.

You’ll need:

  • bag of balloons
  • 4 plastic cups (use smaller paper cups for the kiddos)

Get Dressed UP!

Project the best version of yourself into the new year. Take some photos. Maybe even pick up one of those giant balloons for a photo prop. No one said that NYE at home means yoga pants.

Zoom with your pals

There is nothing better than having your pals right next to you to ring in the New Year. So, this year, you can have the next best thing.

When all the celebration is over, make sure you have the ingredients to make a great brunch on New Year’s Day. We recommend some french toast because it’s so easy.

Did you know in France, the dish is called “pain perdu,”? It means “lost bread.”
