Brighten your day! Keep an eye out for these painted rocks around the River City (Ally Tsimekles/rivercityweekend.com)

Have you ever seen a small painted rock in a shopping cart?

Maybe you’ve seen them while walking along a trail or pathway.

They’re there for you. Yes, you! They’re meant to brighten the day of whoever finds them.

These rocks are the product of the members of the Facebook group, Evansville Rocks!. It’s like a large game of finders keepers. If you happen to stumble across one, you can keep it or re-hide for someone else to find.

The rocks can be found in public areas. You might find some on a park trail, at the gas station or on a lamp post.

And if you do want to hide a few rocks yourself, be sure to be mindful of the landscaping of public spaces.

Evansville Rocks! is not alone. There are many similar groups that do the very same thing in other cities. You find one of theirs here, too.

Marilyn Gregory, an Admin for the Evansville Rocks! Facebook page, said she likes to take a rock that she has painted with her when she travels. You might come across an Evansville Rocks! rock in other states and if you’re lucky enough, the few that are overseas.
