TacoBilly puts a Southern twist on South of the Border staples

TacoBilly started as a dream for owners Beth and Hunter Berry, driven by shared passions for all things “sustainable,” and an insatiable hunger for adventure.

Unless you’re talking about South of the Border, most people typically don’t think about tacos as being a Southern staple. A family who settled in Asheville, North Carolina by way of Mexico, however, made it happen.

TacoBilly started as a dream for owners Beth and Hunter Berry. The couple is driven by shared passions for all things “sustainable,” and an insatiable hunger for adventure, which took them to southern Mexico for a few years. Once they returned to the USA and settled in Asheville, NC, the idea for a taco stand took hold. From there, the couple was able to put their knowledge of recipes and advice from friends and family all over the world to deliciously good use.

When asked about why they chose to move to Asheville of all places, Beth said, “we were looking for a place that had a local food movement and the mindsets of the people were alternative and open.” She’s right about that. Asheville has been voted one of the best cities for all kinds of reasons, ranging from being the best beer city in the nation to being a top 20 place to retire.

Their menu features all sorts of tasty tacos. According to Hunter, their original intentions to start the taco shop were to “spread good news through breakfast tacos.” Seems reasonable. Their menu features all sorts of specialty tacos, like the Billie Holiday, Billy Joel, Billy Ocean (are you catching their drift?), and the Grandberry. “Behind every taco is a person,” Hunter says. Their #1 selling taco is called Mama’s Favorite, featuring eggs, spinach, sweet potatoes, and goat cheese topped on a plantain tortilla.

Be sure to check out TacoBilly in Asheville for delicious tacos at a wonderful family-run restaurant!
