Come little children: “Hocus Pocus” returns to select theaters

It’s not a bunch of Hocus Pocus!

You’ll soon be able to watch the cult classic in theaters!

The Sanderson Sisters will be on the big screen in honor of the movie’s 25th anniversary.

Hocus Pocus lowdown

Unless you’ve been living under a very large rock, you are probably relatively familiar with the movie.

But,  we’re here to enlighten (or remind) you about the basics of this Halloween must-watch movie.

After moving to Salem, Mass., teenager Max Dennison (Omri Katz) explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani (Thora Birch) and their new friend, Allison (Vinessa Shaw). After dismissing a story Allison tells as superstitious, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy) who used to live in the house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal.

When Disney released the movie back in 1993, it wasn’t actually a box office hit.

It was released in July which was a pretty unusual time for a Halloween movie to hit the big screen.

According to some researchers, the Walt Disney Company opted to release it in July because executives didn’t want Hocus Pocus to compete against The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Touchstone Picture (also owned by the Disney Corporation) was responsible for The Nightmare Before Christmas, so it makes sense.

MYTH BUSTER: If you’ve seen a post on social media circulating about Hocus Pocus 2, we’ve got disappointing news. That’s just a rumor that keeps spreading and has been around since 2014.

During a “Ask Me Anything” segment on Reddit, Bette Midler, who played Winifred Sanderson, wrote, “Inundate the Disney company, because I have canvassed the girls and they are willing to do it, but we have no say in it, so if you want a HOCUS POCUS 2, ask the Walt Disney company. You have been SO adorable. This has been most enlightening. SISTAHS!”

Sorry to disappoint!
