Big Dipper: This burger has been popular for 65 years and counting

You have to try this burger!

The Big Dipper has been a hot spot for almost 65 years.

Although some things have changed, the Big Dipper in Owensboro, KY  has remained one of the most popular spots for a great burger and ice cream.

The Osborne family were originally going to buy into the Dairy Queen franchise, but took a chance on themselves after receiving the advice, “If you can open your own, do it!”

And so the Big Dipper was born!

The name played into the galactic theme that was gaining popularity in the area. Along with Big Dipper, Owensboro has Moonlite Bar-B-Q, which is another landmark in the area, and had the Starlite Drive-In that has been closed since 1989.

Over the decades, Big Dipper has added a drive-thru, perfected their kitchen efficiency and expanded their building. And they were forced to make upgrades after a storm destroyed their original sign in the 80s.

But they’ve never changed their burger. The Dipper Burger is unique to the area and not like other burgers. Most people know something is different about the burger, but they can’t quite put a finger on it. It’s a must-eat Tri-State food!
